Welcome, everybody, and thank you for tuning in to another Leostream podcast. I’m very excited to be joined by Kevin Greenway, CTO at 10ZiG. Kevin, say hi to everybody.

Hi, everybody. Thanks for having me, Karen. I’m really excited to be joining you today.

Karen Gondoly

We’re excited to have you. The Leostream and 10ZiG relationship goes back quite a ways.

I actually searched through my email to see when it started, and it was April 2009, which was right around the time your company rebranded from Bossa Nova to 10ZiG. So, we’re going all the way back to the beginning of the 10ZiG brand.

We even attended VMware VMworld back then and demoed a thin client in the Leostream booth. We’ve been working together for quite some time.

Obviously, there are all sorts of new things going on in the industry that we want to talk about today, particularly around the HP Anyware end-of-life, which is top of mind for a lot of people.

Since the end-of-life announcement, what kinds of conversations have you been having with customers?

Kevin Greenway

It’s been very interesting.

We’ve been a partner with HP Anyware, and Teradici before it, for a number of years. The announcement certainly opened our eyes in terms of the conversations we’ve been having.

What we’re seeing is that customers are looking for guidance, not necessarily just a replacement for HP Anyware.

As we’ve found along this journey, there isn’t necessarily one obvious answer for every organization. Every environment has slightly different requirements, particularly across different verticals.

The announcement has really given customers a chance, and encouraged them, to look beyond what they’ve always used and to have conversations with companies like 10ZiG and Leostream.

It’s a very interesting time that we’re in right now.

Karen Gondoly

I know it’s opened up a lot of new opportunities for us, and I’m sure it has for you as well, including opportunities in some new industries.

Are you branching into new verticals as part of this?

Kevin Greenway

Yes, we are, and it actually took us a little by surprise.

I’m certainly not suggesting that HP Anyware was restricted to media and entertainment by any means. But some of the conversations we’ve had with those customers, as well as with the alternative vendors we’ve started working with, have really opened our eyes to how these solutions can play in other segments.

We’ve had conversations in industries such as oil and gas, manufacturing, and scientific environments where scientists or engineers need to work with complex data.

I think what collectively ties these use cases together, and what HP Anyware helped deliver, is the ability to support GPU-intensive remote environments. You might have a physical or virtual machine in a remote location, and you need to deliver that graphical experience effectively to users somewhere else.

We’re starting to see organizations realize that these technologies can solve problems well beyond the traditional HP Anyware use cases.

So, we’re not necessarily looking at a like-for-like replacement. There’s a much broader perspective at play.

Karen Gondoly

Right. There are organizations migrating from existing environments, but probably some greenfield organizations as well as you begin integrating with these other technologies.

There are a number of high-performance display protocols on the market. What’s been your approach when deciding which ones to invest in? What have you been looking for?

Kevin Greenway

Our approach is what we’ve always done at 10ZiG. We don’t take things for granted or make assumptions. We listen to our customers and to the market.

One thing that surprised us was that we initially thought there might be some immediate go-to solutions that customers would naturally move toward, whether they were existing customers or building greenfield environments.

Instead, we’ve seen a much wider range of alternative solutions.

Three that have stood out so far, in no particular order, are Amazon DCV, Mechdyne TGX, and HP RGS.

While we offer thin clients that are Windows IoT and Linux-based, one of the things we look at closely is how each requested solution works from a Linux perspective. That’s ultimately where 10ZiG can offer a great deal of value through our ability to support and optimize the Linux client.

We also look closely at the overall user experience, not just the solution itself. We want to understand what the experience looks like when it’s paired with a thin client compared to a traditional PC or laptop.

Then, of course, there’s the integration opportunity. What does that integration look like? What’s it like to work with the other technology vendors and, importantly, how do we bring everything together with Leostream to provide a complete end-to-end solution?

Those have been some of the key considerations throughout this journey.

Karen Gondoly

That makes a lot of sense. Those are definitely the top three we’ve heard come up as well, along with some others, but you might call those the big three.

If someone came to you today and said they’re evaluating alternatives, what advice would you give them as they look at these different solutions?

Kevin Greenway

That’s a great question.

It really comes down to a few things. The protocols and codecs used by these solutions are important, and that applies to both greenfield and existing environments.

When we’re dealing with graphics-intensive remote workloads, the user experience is critical. We need to look at how those graphics are delivered through the different protocols and codecs and make sure we’re providing a good experience.

One thing that’s different when you’re using a thin client rather than a traditional PC or laptop is that you don’t necessarily have the same processing capabilities at the endpoint.

That’s where hardware acceleration can provide a real advantage.

The good news is that each of the solutions we’re evaluating offers hardware acceleration, which allows us to deliver a very strong user experience.

We also put a significant emphasis on Linux support. We look at the overall experience from a Linux client compared to other operating systems, such as Windows or macOS.

Our goal is always to provide a consistent, if not better, experience. Because we control and can optimize our operating system, we can work with the technology vendors to fine-tune that experience.

That extends all the way into the user’s workflow. We can automate certain parts of that workflow so that, if a user’s only requirement is to log in and connect to their remote environment, we can make that process as seamless as possible.

At the same time, we want to provide strong management and security capabilities for the IT team.

Ultimately, different customer requirements lead to different decisions. Performance is one consideration, but you also have to look at the customer’s existing infrastructure, the types of workloads they’re supporting, and whether those workloads are better suited to one solution versus another.

Endpoint requirements matter as well. How many monitors does the user need? How many USB ports? What types of USB peripherals are involved?

All of those factors come into play during an evaluation.

And I think the thing that really stands out is that there isn’t necessarily one clear winner.

The market is changing, and customers are increasingly willing to evaluate multiple solutions and make the decision that’s best for their particular requirements.

Karen Gondoly

One thing you mentioned really stood out to me as valuable. It was subtle, but you talked about how much time you’ve spent looking at how to fine-tune these different clients so they connect in a way that optimizes performance.

That’s something we see when we work with people on PoCs. There are a lot of things you can tweak to make the experience the best it can be, and knowing how to do that and where those settings are can be complicated.

If you can provide an out-of-the-box solution that takes care of that optimization, it can really simplify the process of building an environment.

Kevin Greenway

Definitely. You’ve hit the point home there.

That’s one of the real advantages of the thin client, especially from a Linux perspective. You can make it very turnkey, with everything already deployed and ready to go.

You can provide a simple set of options that automates the everyday process of user login and connectivity, whether that’s configured locally at the endpoint or centrally through the management tool. It’s all encompassing and designed to simplify that experience.

Karen Gondoly

Awesome. We’ve been talking about Linux in broad terms, but let’s give it a name. This is your PeakOS solution that’s part of the 10ZiG offering, correct?

Kevin Greenway

That’s correct.

Karen Gondoly

You’ve already touched on it quite a bit, but is there any other special sauce you can share about PeakOS?

Kevin Greenway

Absolutely. PeakOS, and our Linux operating system in general, has gone through quite a journey. It actually started even before COVID. I hate to always bring COVID into these conversations, but it still comes into play when you look at how things have changed along the path to where we are today in 2026.

PeakOS is ultimately designed with **flexibility** in mind. It’s also designed to align closely with Ubuntu.

We took that approach because our partners, including Leostream, typically develop their client executables, binaries, and packages with Ubuntu in mind

That enables us to be very responsive and gives us the flexibility to keep pace as existing clients evolve and new client technologies emerge in the market.

Another benefit of PeakOS is the way we can deliver the login and general user experience in a variety of different ways, making it easier for both users and administrators.

And something I’ve already touched on that pairs very nicely with PeakOS is the free endpoint management included with **10ZiG Manager**.

We now effectively have two versions of 10ZiG Manager for different use cases. There’s a Windows version that can run on an existing Windows VM, as well as a Linux-based virtual appliance.

The concept behind both is very similar. They enable automation for the initial deployment as well as ongoing configuration and management.

We can also install add-ons to the operating system, so the technologies we’ve discussed today, as well as Leostream, can be easily deployed and updated through 10ZiG Manager.

Ultimately, it’s about simplifying deployment and making endpoint management easier than it might be with an equivalent PC or laptop.

Security also goes hand in hand with both the operating system and 10ZiG Manager. We probably don’t have time to delve too deeply into security today, but a good example is our recent **PeakOS 16.6** release, where we’ve introduced a number of security enhancements.

That’s increasingly important when you think about some of the industries we’ve discussed today, where security is more critical than ever.

The final thing I’d highlight about PeakOS is the importance of supporting **multiple remote display technologies**.

We don’t want to put all our eggs in one basket and assume every customer is going to choose the same technology.

Whether it’s during a PoC, in a production environment, or even across different teams and departments within the same organization, PeakOS allows us to support multiple remote display technologies from a single solution.

Karen Gondoly

I’m glad you touched on security because I was going to ask about that if you hadn’t. It’s definitely something we hear people ask about frequently: How do you secure your endpoint devices?

I think a nice, locked-down Linux operating system like PeakOS, combined with your hardware solutions, is a great way to approach that.

Kevin Greenway

Absolutely.

Karen Gondoly

Well, this has been fabulous. Thank you for joining me.

I’m really excited to see where this partnership goes in the future because I think we both share the same message of allowing users and customers to essentially **choose their own adventure**.

It’s about making sure organizations can put the right technologies in place to keep their users productive while potentially saving money at the same time.

We also have a new Leostream client coming out that will provide an even better experience on those PeakOS devices, so keep an eye out for that.

If you wanted to leave people with one final thought about 10ZiG, what would it be?

Kevin Greenway

I think it goes hand in hand with both 10ZiG and Leostream.

One thing that’s really benefited both of us during this period of change is that we can orchestrate across multiple protocols without forcing customers into one particular ecosystem.

From the 10ZiG perspective, as we look at the three solutions we’ve discussed today, what makes it easier is being able to integrate them with Leostream from a connectivity and brokering perspective.

You mentioned at the beginning that we’ve had a relationship since 2009, and that relationship is fantastic. The fact that we can regularly connect with your team, stay up to date on the technology, and work together through development is extremely valuable.

From 10ZiG’s perspective, we bring that same flexibility to the endpoint.

We’re not confined to either a Linux or Windows operating system. And when customers come to 10ZiG through Leostream, the value we bring goes beyond the endpoint itself. Remote endpoint technology is our sole focus.

We offer both hardware and software. That includes our thin clients as well as our operating systems, which can run on our own hardware or on existing PCs and laptops.

It’s about maintaining that agnostic approach and having the flexibility to listen to the customer, understand their industry and user requirements, and help guide them toward not only the right technology, but also the right settings and configuration to deliver a great end-to-end solution.

And, hopefully, we can continue doing that together with Leostream.
