2022 Desktop Virtualization Trends Driven by Remote and Hybrid Workers

To continue helping organizations deploy cutting edge remote desktop solutions, Leostream is following several trends in the new year.

Highly customizable workflows
Some days employees may be able to work from the office, but other days they’ll be home or on the road. Flexibility is key when designing a hosted desktop environment. We recommend using technology that is highly customizable and able to integrate with other vendors in the desktop virtualization space. As a vendor neutral platform, Leostream has always placed enormous focus on integrating with all of the major hosting platforms, remote display protocols, operating systems and devices that are commonly found across the enterprise. Plus, this year we took things a step further by introducing a RESTful API, which is helping customers and partners streamline the installation and configuration of our software to build even more integrated workflows around remote access.

Greater push towards public clouds to host remote workloads
On-premises environments and private clouds have been the name of the game for quite some time across industries that want to lock down their virtual environments. However, even traditionally on-prem heavy industries like healthcare, higher education, and media and entertainment are offloading some of their remote workloads onto major public clouds.  Long gone are the days when your entire VDI stack has to be built and hosted in your office building. Businesses no longer need to have space and air conditioning for pallets of hardware as 3rd party datacenters become more accessible and affordable than ever before. Some of our customers who were hesitant in the past are starting to run hosted resources on Azure®, AWS, Google Cloud Platform, and OpenStack, and rely on Leostream to facilitate desktop connections and to help keep cloud costs in check.

Better ways to automate the hosted desktop environment
The more automation that companies can incorporate into their remote desktop deployments, the more efficiency they can achieve. Not only can adding automation save IT departments time, but it also creates a consistent experience for the end-user. At Leostream, we have customers leveraging our remote access software to automate a number of redundant tasks related to authenticating users into their workstations and connecting them to resources. You can map out complex chains of events and eliminate manual tasks. For example, if your organization needs to authenticate users with certain security best practices then you can create policies for that to seamlessly occur in the backend. Do you want to power desktops on and off at certain times or release desktops into a pool for other users to share? Build plans around these workflows then set it and forget it. Policies like this can be configured at huge scale with hundreds of users connecting into the virtual desktop environment.

Remote desktop monitoring tools
With workers out of the office and scattered across various locations, the more monitoring companies have regarding access to company resources the better.  Remote desktop monitoring software provides visibility into who is accessing what and when and through what networks or devices. Robust monitoring assists with keeping the virtual desktop environment secure and can also provide compelling insights into optimizing resource usage. The Leostream™ Platform comes equipped with extensive logging and reporting features to help IT administrators track essential information about user activity. In this past year, we launched an entirely new dashboard geared towards monitoring in order to give IT administers even more granular data in a visual way.
