| Where Virtual Desktops Meet Real Business | April 2009 |
|
Leostream News & Events for April 2009 In the past few weeks, Brian Madden, David Marshall, and a number of industry experts have been revisiting the Connection Broker, taking a closer look, asking and answering the question: "How can Leostream continue to see success with the 'commoditization' of connection brokers happening on all sides?" The answer almost always includes the Connection Broker's flexible, heterogeneous approach to VDI integration.
Our NoMachine NX partnership announcement last month caused Scott Lowe and others to weigh in on the Connection Broker's ability to deliver both Windows and Linux Desktops. Virtual Strategy Magazine interviewed Humberto Duarte of the University of Rennes, and Channel Reseller News took a serious look at Leostream, VDI and the reseller community. And in the ramp up to Citrix Summit/Synergy in early May, we were proud to announce our Citrix Ready status for XenServer. Stay tuned for more announcements just prior to the show!
Brian Madden Pays a Visit Brian stopped by earlier this month for a technical deep-dive and looking to answer the question: "How Does Leostream Still Exist?" He talks about the visit and his findings during a recent episode of Brian Madden TV. In it, he compares the value of the Connection Broker to the way BASF portrayed themselves in the 1980s, saying "Leostream is like BASF. 'They don't make the paint, they make the paint brighter.' 'They don't make the music, they make the music clearer.' I think with Leostream they don't make the VDI, they make the VDI better, or they make the VDI work."
David Marshall Revisits Leostream and the Connection Broker
InfoWorld's David Marshall recently posed a similar question to Brian's: "Much like the hypervisor in a server virtualization world, VDI
connection brokers are beginning to become commodity for the virtual
desktop. So how does a small, pioneering software firm like Leostream
survive?" David concludes that the Connection Broker's vendor-independence and heterogeneous support are the key, enabling integration of many desktop and application delivery systems in one consolidated interface.
Scott Lowe Comments on Leostream's Support for Linux VDI
In his blog, Scott recently commented "Leostream has partnered with NoMachine, integrating NoMachine’s NX protocol into their Connection Broker in order to support Linux-based virtual hosted
desktops. This will allow Leostream to try to gain ground on VMware View by
supporting not only Windows-based hosted virtual desktops, but also
virtual desktops running Linux."
Virtual Strategy Magazine Interviews Humberto Duarte of the University of Rennes 2 About the University's Award-Winning VDI Deployment Carryl Roy interviews Humberto Duarte, IT Co-Director for the University of Rennes 2. Duarte explains how a virtualized desktop infrastructure provides the best way for the University to balance user access with management and security considerations. He describes how the Leostream Connection Broker proved to be a vital piece of the deployment. Interfacing easily with University systems, the Connection Broker creates an efficient way to deliver dynamic Linux or Windows desktops to more than 18,000 students, faculty, and staff via laptops and thin clients. CRN Magazine on VDI, Connection Brokers and the Channel
Damon Poeter of Channel Reseller News Magazine recently weighed in on VDI and what it means for the reseller community, saying "the virtual desktop market is set to explode. Savvy solution providers
will look to get in on the ground floor with vendors such as Leostream." Poeter continued, "Leostream won't create your virtualized desktop environment, but the eight-year-old ISV can make getting there a whole lot faster and easier . . . with a light touch and quickness that can be tapped to complete VDI projects" in challenging enterprise-level environments while minimizing disruption to end users.
